The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), a Central government organisation based in New Delhi, has launched a campaign to promote communal harmony in society from November 19 to 25. Schools across the country have been encouraged to participate, according to a note circulated by the CBSE. “We have been celebrating it every year since it is a good opportunity for students to learn more about communal harmony. Normally, we organise a series of cultural activities around the theme, like music recitals and role plays which are performed in the assembly. We also get speakers to talk to children about communal harmony from time to time. It is important that such concepts are propagated when students are young so that they will be more aware of it. It will enable them to become good citizens,” said K Mohana, principal, Modern Senior Secondary School and secretary, Chennai CBSE Sahodaya School Complex. Organisations like Service and Research Institute on Family and Children (SERFAC) have also been working to promote communal harmony among different age groups. A seminar on the Role of family in building communal harmony was organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti with the participation of NGOs, school and college students.
