A communal flare-up was averted in Jamshedpur on September 28 when a group of saffron brigade brought out a Durga Puja immersion procession to an abrupt halt for five long hours, demanding immediate arrest of the members of a particular community for allegedly thrashing the volunteer of a Puja Committee in Bistupur. The issue flared up when some decoration items were found stolen from a Puja pandal, creating a law and order problem for the East Singhbhum district administration with members of the Puja Committee and backed by BJP leaders, refusing to move ahead with the procession unless the accused were arrested.
