Egypt’s Constitution-writing panel continues to work, seeking a strong broad-based consensus representing the full Egyptian political and social spectra, in order to author a national charter for all. Dr. Amr Darrag, Secretary General of the Constituent Assembly (CA) entrusted with drafting Egypt’s new Constitution, affirmed that more than 90% of the CA’s members attend every session of the panel. “A generally good atmosphere of national accord permeates CA meetings. This will certainly lead to the finalisation of the Constitution.”
In press statements, Dr. Darrag said that everyone feels CA representation is fair and balanced and very harmonious, comprising representatives for each component of the country’s population. “Everyone has put aside their ideology or party robe and is now focusing on the drafting of a constitution acceptable to everyone and a national charter for all Egyptians. “We will persuade undecided CA members to stay on. This consensus will continue until the completion of the drafting of all articles of the new Constitution.”
