The Delhi High Court, on 8 January, asked the Union Government and the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to consider introducing moral education as a compulsory subject in school and university curricula. The HC noted this while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Madhu Mukul Tripathi and RP Arora on the issue. Since the provisions of National Education Policy in respect of imparting moral values to students are not implemented properly, students are on the cusp of many crimes and other inappropriate acts which deteriorate the country’s high place.
Meanwhile, in yet another case, a court in Delhi has noted that pre-marital sex is “immoral” and against the “tenets of every religion”. The court noted this while hearing a rape allegation levelled against an employee of an MNC. The court added that if a woman allows her male partner to indulge into sexual intercourse with her on the pretext of marriage and later the partner refuses to marry her, the act does not fall under the ambit of rape and the woman does so “at her own peril.”
