COP ARRESTED FOR MURDER ATTEMPT

Ravindra Angre, a former encounter specialist involved in 60 killings, was arrested by a squad of Srinagar police after an alleged attempt to kill Mahesh Wagh, a Thane-based builder in Thane on June 15. Wagh is admitted at the Civil Hospital with a bullet wound in his shoulder. His brother Ganesh Wagh had in October 2007 filed a case of threat and extortion against Angre. The accused cop was arrested and spent 14 months in Thane Central Jail before being released on bail last year. Mahesh was motorcycling from work around 10.15 pm when a man opened fire at him and fled away. In the complaint, Mahesh alleged Angre had attacked him because of the case by his brother. “Angre was arrested after we received a written complaint. He was booked for an attempt to murder under sections of the Arms Act,” said Vivek Phansalkar, Additional Commissioner (East), Thane Police.
