Panjim, Goa, Feb. 16:

Religion is being misused to gain political advantage. Expressing grave concern over thisgrowing trend, Prof. Mohammad Salim Engineer, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said, “Jamaat-e-Islami Hind strives to create awareness among the large segments of masses and make them understand that religion is not toraise conflicts, and that people are made to fight with each other to create a division and contaminate the beauty of diversity in India. Therefore, our organization has taken this initiative to educate people and religious leaders about this issue.” He was addressing a press conference organized by JIH Goa here Thursday to address the issue of rising religious tension in the country.

Mr. Asif Hussain, State Presidentof JIH Goa also addressed the press conference.

Religious leaders play a vital role in conveying the message to the people and encouraging them to live with each other in peace and harmony. “The only way to eradicate this hate and misunderstanding created among people is to work together in brotherhood and respect one another by not falling prey to the propaganda that divides the people of India,” said Prof. Salim Engineer.

India is well-known for its diversity where people from different religions, different mindsets and thinking patterns stay together. These people belonging to diverse beliefs and contrasting lifestyles played a significant role in the independence of India. They fought hand in hand with an unwavering trust and respect for each other that makes this country special.

Few reasonshave been contributing to the rise in communalviolence and social disharmony. The growinginfluence of certainparties in spreading hate and divisionhas created a dangerous situation. These political parties or politicians are trying to divert the attention of the people from real issues or problems that require seriousconsideration. Their agenda is to make people fight over petty issues on the basis of religion, especially at the time of elections.

Creating an environment of religious harmony is the need of the hour. Efforts should be made by every individual to promote peace, respect one another, and not be misguided by those trying to spread hate and misunderstandings among the people of India.
