Delhi woke up on the first day of 2023 with the horrific news of killing a young woman Anjali (21) under the wheels of a car and being dragged for miles. Road accidents are normal in our country, as few care for safety rules, but this case is dreadful.

A car carrying four drunken men along the driver hit the Scotty of the victim in the Kanjhawala area in Sultanpuri when she was returning home after work in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The car riders did not stop and dragged her for almost one hour. What is more shocking, the people on road made at least five calls to the police before it was located. This occurred on New Year’s Day when thousands of policemen were officially “deployed to patrol Delhi’s roads” as a precaution. As reported in the media, “Several CCTV videos have emerged showing the victim underneath the car wheels.” Under the impact of dragging the victim for so long, her clothes totally tore away. The body of the lone bread earner for the family was found wholly necked on the road. Had they stopped the car as it hit her Scotty, Allah willing, she might be alive even after the accident.

AT A PLACE OF WORSHIP

It may be said, that it happened because all five occupants of the car were under the influence of alcohol. Surely it is a serious breach of the law and dangerous for our safety. But it is not the only reason for the horrific incident targeting women. Just a week ago, a woman was mercilessly thrashed and shamelessly dragged out of a place of worship. This happened in BJP-ruled state of Karnataka’s city of Bengaluru, known as the “Silicon Valley of India”.

A two-minute video of the incident is viral on media showing a sturdy priest slapping a mentally and physically sick-looking woman, then pulling her by the hair on the floor and dragging her out of a sprawling compound. Reportedly the woman was under the impression that she was the wife of the chief deity and wanted to sit near the idol. The priest removed her physically when she insisted to stay. Other people seen in the video remained content and did not move to save the woman. It happened in the last week of 2022 but was reported late in the first week of 2023 when the woman complained to the police.

The priest and others should not be under the influence of alcohol, etc. as the killers of Anjali had been, but they were certainly intoxicated by men’s supremacy over women, arrogance, and false religiosity.

STABBING 51 TIMES

Another dreadful incident of brutality is reported from District Korba in Chhattisgarh where a person allegedly killed his “lover”, a 21-year-old tribal woman, by stabbing her 51 times with a screwdriver. The victim was stabbed 34 times in the chest, 16 times in the back, and once in the side. The wound near the heart was the most severe. The incident took place on December 24. The suspected accused reportedly took a flight from Gujarat to Chhattisgarh to meet the victim. He visited her when she was alone at home in the morning. What transpired between them and what raged the accused to such brutality is not known. However, pro-Hindutva media added an anti-minority tag of “Love-Jihad” as the victim, a tribal by birth, had converted to Christianity.

The PTI reported the incident as a result of an extra-marital ‘friendship’, spanning over three years. The affair started when the accused was working as a bus conductor in the area and the young girl used to travel by it. The duo remained in contact through WhatsApp, even after the accused had shifted to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. For some time, she had stopped to respond. This looks like Shraddha Walker’s case of recently introduced immorality of a live-in relationship.

BABY GIRL THROWN OUT OF MOVING CAB

Sexual lust has no limits to outrage a woman as reported from Maharashtra. A woman was travelling as a co-passenger in a cab with some strangers on December 11. After a while, they started teasing and molesting her. When she objected, they became ruder. When the woman resisted hard, they snatched her 10-month-old baby girl and flung her out of the speeding cab. Later the woman was also pushed out. She got injured but the innocent girl was found dead on the spot.

NUDITY AND SEXUALITY

All these heinous crimes are the fruits of what is being seeded in the form of nudity and sexuality through visual and print media. Inhumanity and ruthlessness are the product of political discourses being more and more explicit in hate speech. Even senior leaders have no clue what tendency they are filliping by spreading hate and anger among people for their political mileage. Such tendencies get rooted in the human psyche and by time become blind to the mine and thine and so become uncontrollable. The history of Hitler’s Germany, and Mussolini’s Italy is evident. Such guns are always prone to backfire.

THE GRAPH OF CRIME

Unfortunately, the graph of crime is rising after recent waves of riots in Delhi. Those who had managed Gujarat in 2002 have shown the same colour in Delhi in controlling the police. During the Jahangir Puri riots, when a woman officer expressed her intention to take action against VHP and Bajrang Dal, etc. for leading an unauthorised procession of Ram Navami and igniting violence, she had to withdraw the statement. During recent assembly elections in Gujarat, the statement of a senior leader regarding 2002 anti-minority violence was noticed even in international media with concern.

ILLICIT RELATIONS

Illicit relations, the biggest reason for destroying cultural values, has already been legally legitimised and the immorality of ‘live-in relationship’ is spreading like a menace. Efforts are also being made to make the immorality of sexual disorientation respectable. Recently a senior leader, considered the custodian of Indian Culture opined, “Indian civilization has traditionally acknowledged the (homosexual) community.”

  1. SHAH’S CASE

Last but not the least is a case of a London-based doctor Manish Shah of Indian origin. He is found guilty of 115 offences of sexual assault by penetration, against 28 women aged between 15 and 34. Three years back in February 2020, he was convicted of 90 such assaults on 24 female patients and was handed three life sentences with a minimum term of 15 years. On January 9, 2023, he received two more life sentences, after sexually assaulting 4 women during unnecessary examinations. He was found guilty last month for 25 more sexual assaults and given two more life sentences. As per law, he will have to serve a minimum of 25 years in jail. We hope he will not be released early as the rapists of Bilkis Bano got. He will also not be greeted after his release.
