The Hyderabad police slapped criminal cases against The Hindu’s Resident Editor Mr. S Nagesh Kumar allegedly for publishing a story on the Director General of Police, Mr. V Dinesh Reddy’s visit to a godman in the Old City. Mr. Reddy had visited Habib Mujtba Al Aydaroos Baba on 12 September. The following day the story was published on the front page of the newspaper with accompanying image of Reddy sitting with folded hands before the godman. The police in its complaint said the paper carried a false report to tarnish the image of the DGP. Meanwhile, the Editors Guild has sharply reacted to the move of the police saying it was a gross abuse of power over a personal grievance.
