Advocate Mahmood Pracha, in a recent press meet jointly called by Association for Protection of Civil Rights and Jamiat Ulema Hind, said the police have implicated many an innocent in different cases who were even unaware of the case at all. He further urged that the Muslims should change their way of thinking that “The police arrest a person only when they have some evidence against him.” Throwing light on the custodial killing of Kateel Siddiqee in Maharashtra, the advocate said the killing was a part of conspiracy. Adding, at the time of German Bakery Blast, the Andhra Pradesh ATS had claimed that the deceased was with the kingpin while the Maharashtra ATS had asserted Mirza Himayat Beg was with the mastermind. The advocate stressed that the police compel an innocent to become either an approver or an accused in any case. The APCR has filed a petition in Bombay High Court urging it to reopen the case of German Bakery Blast.
