Around 13 persons all belonging to the so-called upper caste have been arrested for harassing and attacking the people of “lower caste” in Pabnawa village of Kaithal district in Haryana. A mob consisting of around 400 people, all from upper caste attacked a Dalit village on 13 April. Consequently, some 200 Dalit families were forced to flee the village. The attack is said to be the follow-up to an incident in which a Dalit boy married a girl belonging to upper caste on 10 April giving way to a sectarian tension in the locality. The couple approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and appealed for police protection.The village which has 60 per cent population of Ror, the upper caste, is notorious for its vicious attack on the Dalit community.
