The human resource development ministry constituted a high-level committee to observe the findings of the Sachar Committee regarding education of Muslim. It has referred the issue of reservations for Dalit-Muslims in education institutions to the home ministry.

Mr. MAA Fatmi, the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, who is also Chairman of the 13-member committee said, “We have informally described the planning commission of our findings so that our recommendation could be included in its proposals for the eleventh five year plan.

“We have studied the scope of action in primary, secondary, and higher education and spread of literacy in an effort to make the report as meaningful, practical and comprehensive as possible,” Mr. Fatmi said.

The committee has also laid special emphasis on checking the dropout rates among Muslim students. Residential schools for girls on the lines of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalas are also among the committee’s suggestions, he said.
