The recent visit of Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna has raised eyebrows in India and even in the Muslim countries. Serious concern is being expressed in several quarters about the fact that Israel has become the largest supporter of arms to India.
Right from its inception it has been the constant policy of the Zionist state to forge alliances with a large number of countries under the pretext of providing security for them. Provision of security is followed by a steady stream of arms supply. In this way Israel has become one of the few large manufacturers and suppliers of arms in the world.
Further, it is an open secret that the US and Israel are two sides of the same coin. Actually Israel is the forward post of US imperialism in the Middle East. The US provides unending financial aid for Israel and has been supplying military hardware not only in peace times but even in the midst of wars. The nexus between US and Israel is a fact to be seen by everyone.
It would be unfortunate if our country also is seen as a part of US-Israel axis. India’s close relationship with a country which has been a source of terrorism in the Middle East and which has rejected hundreds of UN resolutions and has been preserving policies of Apartheid against Palestinians in their own country is not acceptable to justice-loving citizens of this country. Muslims, who form one-sixth of India’s population, also strongly disapprove this dangerous liaison – dangerous for the cause of peace and justice and also for India’s relationship with the Muslim world.
India should scale down its relationship with Israel and tell it in no ambiguous words that Israel must end its expansionist activities, put a final end to building houses and Israeli settlements on occupied lands, stop its conspiracies to denigrate Masjid al-Aqsa, and seriously agree to give back to Palestinians their occupied lands. India should urge Israel to read the writing on the wall that the whole world is wary of Israeli policies against Palestine. It is better for it to recognise the independent state of Palestine before it is thrown out of UN and declared an international pariah. Let us be conscious of the consequences of keeping company with such an irresponsible state.
