Indian political scene appears as a pool of unprincipled politicians. In elections people have no choice. They are forced to choose the lesser evil. People have to run from pillar to post to save their rights and lives.

Tall claims are made and false promises are dangled before the electorate. Just a few examples: “We are a party with a difference. We will provide two crore jobs every year. We will bring back black money and every citizen will have 15 lakh rupees in his bank account. The income of farmers would be doubled in a few years. Na khaunganakhanedoonga.” But the reality is that corruption, from top to bottom, has spread as poison spreads in the body of a man bitten by a snake.

The BJP is celebrating its long-awaited victory in West Bengal and Suvendu Adhikari has been crowned in that state. People are cracking jokes on P.M. Modi’s sarcastic comments which he made against Suvendu Adhikari in 2016 when he was caught on cameraaccepting lakhs of rupees as bribe. Now Adhikari is being hailed as the great patriot and the most honest and able chief minister.

C.M. Adhikari presents the picture of a dishonest character in political field. He started his career in Congress, then shifted to Trinamool Congress. Finally, he joined BJP and now has been crowned as the ruler of Bengal. It is doubtful if he would solve the pressing problems faced by the over 10 crore citizens of Bengal. He is again at the party’s old game of divide and rule, polarise, communalise, intimidate and terrorise the citizens. He has a special vindictive plan for the state’s Muslims.

Alas there is no hope of any change in the governance of West Bengal. It is feared that the Muslims in the state may be special targets of the new government as the CM Adhikari had already said that “they should be treated like the Palestinians in Gaza”. Adhikari may do everything to suppress and terrorise the 27 per cent Muslim citizens of the state. He had already declared that he does not believe in Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikas. He asserted that ‘jo hamaresaath, ham unkesaath’.

Adhikari’s vindictive nature has already come to light in how Mamta Banerjee, Abhishekh Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee were treated in the very presence of police during the last few days. Muslims, the special targets, cannot expect any relief in the atrocities against them from the Calcutta High Court or even the Supreme Court. The greatest truth is making itself evident that right from the PM to CMs, everyone is “compromised”. Shall we hope against hope that the judiciary will play its role as the guardian of the Constitution, democracy and human rights? This is the least which the beleaguered citizens of this unfortunate country can ask to “save this country from chaos and injustice”.
