Constable Ishaq got the orders from the DCP of Maharashtra to shave off his beard within 15 days; however the State Home Minister has cancelled the order. The orders were taken off after Naseem Khan, president of state minority welfare, met with the State Home Minister RR Patil and pressed him to call off the undemocratic and non-secular order. Ishaq was given clear order that if he did not comply, strict actions will be taken against him. The irony is that earlier Supreme Court gave the permission to Muslim officers to sport the beard if they so like, but still every year regional DCPs and other officials harass Muslim officials by passing such orders.
