Delhi High Court on July 29 agreed to hear the plea of Ansarul Rahman, father of suspected terrorist Mohammad Sajid who succumbed to his injuries in the alleged Batla House encounter last year. Rahman, a resident of Azamgarh, has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court seeking initiation of criminal proceeding against the accused police personnel involved in the encounter. He claimed that the slain boys were innocent and an FIR must be filed against the perpetrators. The letter was sent to the Chief Justice just few days after the NHRC gave a clean chit to Delhi police in a report submitted to the High Court saying there was no human rights violation by the cops.

While admitting the letter, a bench headed by Chief Justice A.P. Shah clubbed it with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) also seeking judicial inquiry into Batla House encounter filed by an NGO Act Now for Harmony and Democracy (ANHAD), and deferred the matter for August 18 to hear his plea. Rahman, in a three-page letter, said he approached the Court as the police had refused to register an FIR and the NHRC also had failed to take stern action against the erring police personnel.
