Sheila Dixit, chief minister of Delhi, in a move of far reaching importance, inaugurated a project of producing electricity from garbage in New Delhi on June 27. The project has been initiated in Public Private Partnership with the state government and Eco Police. Ms Dixit said that the city has little space to keep 7,000 tons of garbage, which is produced every day. She said that if the project runs successfully the city will get rid of this menace. She said that electricity from garbage will be produced in the same way as it is being produced by coal. She hoped that this project will not only produce electricity but also reduce almost 25 per cent of the garbage.
