Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Teerth Purohit Mahasangh, an offshoot of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, on 6 February protested in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, against the Mela Police alleging that some derogatory words have been used for Hindu community in a police manual. They claimed that the word Dharmik Paakhand (religious hypocrisy) has been used to denote Gaudan ceremony in the police manual titled ‘Magh Mela Police Arrangement-2014’ which is derogatory. Addressing the protestors, VHP leader Pawan Srivastava said the police should perform their duty with responsibility to benefit society rather than commenting on a religion. The protestors demanded stringent action against the officer responsible for publishing the manual.
