Listening to TV news the other day was funny, sometimes making a laughing stock, like Mitt Romney saying ‘Obama makes promises that are not kept’, ‘Arun Jaitley says ‘Congress rally is anti people’ and so on and so forth.

One TV channel proudly announced that an ‘outsider’ is taking stock of our ‘justice system’ as if there is nobody within our country to assess the same objectively; probably there is not much brain drain on the legal front; we know our expertise in science and technology working everywhere; of course a few local lawyers were on dais.

The basic question is whether laws are to be segregated country-wise even in today’s holistic world, and whether laws and justice systems in countries other than India are adequately reviewed and found satisfactory to call for the above exercise in India in particular.

Other news items were about Burmese opposition leader refusing to condemn killing of Muslims in the country (Press TV); and about a meeting where various parties condemned indiscriminate arrests of Muslim youth (ETV-Urdu).

Unlike in many western countries, Indian Justice System is alive and can do wonders for the country and its citizens. The provisions in our Constitution even without subsequent amendments and newer and newer laws were more than adequate if they would have been implemented in true spirit. Even now people are harping on new laws without trying to find antidotes to all problems in the existing laws. It is not the country’s ruling party, or rulers or rules that have to be changed but character and thinking of countrymen is to be reformed.

Let us all pledge for it – in thinking, in words and in deeds. Just because a few countries call themselves democratic by conducting so called fair elections under shadows of money, media and mafia, others can’t be made scapegoats.

For example, why was a green party candidate (Jill Stein) in the US presidential elections arrested and released twice just in two weeks before election? Why candidates other than Obama and Romney are not allowed to present their cases too in a similar way?

The news referred to in the first paragraph reminds somebody saying ‘I never fell from a horse because I never raided one’. Moreover it is easy to blame others and difficult to prove oneself.

How can a rally be called anti-people? FDI or price rise can be and is debatable.

Just as Romney is promising a magic in the US, our present main opposition was promising a super magic in a single term at centre, after which its leaders exclaimed that they can’t undo the damage done by Congress over decades in such a short period of their rule. Obviously, every party contesting against Congress can demand half a century of rule at centre on similar lines.

The situation is similar in elections of almost all countries of the world; the real representation of people is suppressed and there are practically two parties forced by ‘governments by the money, of the money, and for the money’.
