The Supreme Court, on 15 February, issued a notice to the government of Maharashtra regarding the police firing in Dhule on 6 January which claimed lives of 6 Muslims and left more than 24 others injured. The ruling came after a social organisation, ANHAD, filed a PIL in the apex court requesting to set up an inquiry into the police firing during the riots. The role of police came under scanner when it opened fire targeting civilians on their chests and heads. Subsequently, some video footage was released by some news channels showing the men in uniform looting and ransacking the stalls in the riot affected area. Meanwhile, the compensation money worth Rs. 30,000 which was given to a riots victim in the form of cheque bounced on 14 February.
