The victims of Dhule communal riots, on 28 January, moved the Supreme Court demanding a Special Investigating Team to probe the role of police during the 6 January violence in which six Muslim men were killed. Mr. Mohammad G Nisar, father of Asim Ahmad, who was one of the six Muslim youths shot dead by the police, filed the petition along with the socio-cultural organisation Act Now for Harmony and Democracy, known as ANHAD. “The police are refusing to take the complaints of minority community, and the state, in spite of announcing judicial inquiry, is yet to appoint a judge for it,” says Shabnam Hashmi of ANHAD.
Earlier, some photographs, regarding Dhule riots, showing men in uniform looting and breaking vendor’s stall and pounding water drums and parked vehicles have been published in various newspapers.
