This is apropos of the Editorial (Radiance 11-17 August). The SP government of Uttar Pradesh has removed the SDM, Nagpal, because she got a mosque in a village near Noida demolished during Ramadhan;hence creating a reason for communal tension in the area. One may say that the mosque was being built without proper permission from the local municipality but was the SDM authorised to do what she did? Also, there is an active group in the area since independence, according to the villagers, that has been threatening the local Muslims that all their attempts to build a mosque would be foiled by them. Undoubtedly, the IAS was fighting bravely with the Sand Mafia but this act of her cannot allow her to become a Social Mafia doing whatever she wanted. Perhaps, this mentality has given way to the Army to kill civilians in the valley and North-Eastern regions as they are ‘bravely protecting’ the borders day in and day out.
