The National Commission for Minorities has written to the Government of Bihar asking it to ensure security and safety of Muslim youth in Seetamarhi district of the state. Notably, the Seetamarhi Action Committee, a local NGO, has earlier registered a complaint with the NCM saying the police was harassing and arresting Muslim youths in the area following Patna blasts. Acting on the complaint, Wajahat Habibullah, the NCM Chairman, rang Amir Subhani, principal secretary in Department of Home Affairs, and asked him to enquire into the matter and take necessary actions so as to provide a safe and conducive atmosphere for Muslim youth. Earlier, the Bihar police had arrested and lodged FIRs against many Muslim youth on the ground that they were planning to spread communal riots in the area.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission has written to the Government of Uttar Pradesh asking it to provide medical and other faculties for the Muzaffarnagar riot victims living in relief camps. The commission issued the order after its recent visit to the riot-hit areas.
