The U.S. hypocrisy is out in the open, when its President Barack Obama is raising walls of protectionism in his own country vis-à-vis outsourcing, while on the other hand coercing India to open its markets in vital sectors like retail. We have seen as how our farmers have paid the price to the arbitrary conditions of the WTO which led to unstable conditions in agriculture. Retail in India has been a source of succour to about 160 million people and the livelihood of scores of kirana merchants will be bulldozed if the global retail giants like Walmart are allowed to open their shops. The matter of allowing FDI in retail was stalled after the move by the UPA government was vibrantly opposed in the Parliament. The bullying tactics of the U.S shall not be allowed to subdue our sovereign interests.
