The heroic death of Maharashtra’s Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, who had solved the serial bomb blasts in Thane, Vashi and Panvel and was also credited for the stunning revelations in the investigation of the September 29 blast in Malegaon, in counter-terror operations has left the BJP-Shiv Sena combine, ashamed. Before the death of Mr Karkare, and his colleagues in the ATS were at the receiving end of almost a slanderous attack from all the groups of saffron leaders for the ongoing ATS probe into the Malegaon blasts. Mr Modi who offered a lofty amount to the family of the ATS chief after his death (the offer was spurned by Karkare’s wife) had attacked the ATS for the “biased” probe into the Malegaon blasts.
They blamed Karkare for what they claim as “implicating the Hindu religious leaders and outfits” in the probe. “It is supreme irony that the same BJP is now paying tributes to Karkare and is talking of helping his family,” said Union Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal.
