Dr. F.R. Faridi was born at Machli Shahar, Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh in 1932. He received his early education from Jaunpur. He learnt Arabic and Islamiat from Thanvi Darsgah, Rampur, and completed his graduation from Allahabad University and post graduation in Economics and Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University. Dr. Faridi joined AMU as Lecturer in Economics. Later on he rendered his services in King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arabia for 10 years.
Dr. Faridi was born on 2nd April 1932 in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. He got Primary Education, high school and intermediate from Jaunpur.. He did Masters in Economics and Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University. He retired as Professor of Economics after a long career in research and teaching in India and abroad.
Dr. Faridi remained member of Jamaat’s Central Advisory Council and Central Representatives Council for many years. He was also the Editor of Urdu monthly Zindagi-e-Nau and English magazine Radiance Viewsweekly. Besides, he was Secretary of Idara-e-Tahqeeq-o-Tasneef.
Dr. Faridi was a renowned thinker and Islamic economist of international repute. His books on Islam and contemporary issues are exemplary. Dr. Faridi was a leading name in India along with Dr. M. Nejatullah Siddiqi to have provided solid ground for academic and research work in Islamic Economics. His books on general economics and Islamic Economics include Nature and Significance of Economic Activity in Islam, Towards a Theory of Fiscal Policy in Islam, Economic Developments and Islamic Moral Values, Essays in Islamic Economic Analysis, Islamic Economics and Economy of Indian Muslims, Living as a Muslim in a Plural Society, Economic Development and Fiscal Policy in Egypt, Indian Economic Development and Planning (1951-1965). His works in Urdu include Sarmayadarana Nizam: Ek Challenge, Daur-e-Hazir ka Karb aur Islam ka Nizam-e-Rahmat, Adl ki Talash, and Islam Aalmi Amn ka Naqeeb.
Dr. Faridi was also the Chairman of Indian Centre for Islamic Finance- ICIF, New Delhi which has been a guiding factor for the cause of Islamic Finance and Banking in our country.
He breathed his last at his residence in Aligarh at the age of 79 on 25 July 2011.
