In a case relating to the Gulbarg Housing Society carnage in the post-Godhra massacre of Muslims, a police officer of the level of DSP and two senior leaders of the Gujarat BJP have been booked by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court. The SIT is headed by former CBI Director K. Raghavan. The SIT filed charges against the accused in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate of Ahmedabad under sections 302 (Murder), 307 (Attempt to Murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The other charges include slack in the duty and tempering with the evidences. These accused are in addition to seven other accused whom the SIT had arrested in January this year. Earlier this month the SIT had filed an additional charge sheet against the elusive Minister of Modi government Maya Kodnani in a case pertaining to the Naroda village violence. The charge sheet also mentioned the name of Circle Inspector who was charged with showing criminal negligence in his duty while posted at Naroda.
