DU Team Bags First Delhi Malayalee Halqa Sevens Tournament Trophy

The team edged past AIIMS to secure the title in a closely-fought final that went into a nerve-wrecking tie-breaker at Jasola Netaji Sports Complex in the Capital on 18 October.

The tournament that saw the participation of six University teams and two community teams enthralled football loving people of the capital. Former Salgokar Air India player and current trainer in Zakir Hussain College Rajath Guha who officiated the matches said all matches were of high standards of professional football.

The Delhi University captain was adjudged the best player of the tournament while Nidal of the same team was given the award for the best goalkeeper. Jibin Chako of AIIMS was awarded the golden boot for the top scorer. Jawaharlal Nehru University team bagged the prize for fair play and supporters of Jamia Millia team were declared best fans.
Chief patron of Delhi Malayalee Halqa T. Arifali distributed the trophy and a cash prize of 10,000 to the winners. Delhi University’s announcement that the cash would be used to fund education for the needy was greeted with much applause.

Kerala Muslim Welfare Association President Basheer, Human Welfare Foundation CEO Muhammad Nafih, Nisa Travels owner Muhammadali, Al-Shaifa Hospital Director Nasar and Delhi Malayalee Halqa President Raji Raoof were among those who attended the event.
