The death and devastation caused by the earthquake in the remote mountainous Tibetan Plateau of southwest China is really sad. But the living persons who have survived the earthquake will have to live with the pain of loss of near and dear ones and the property. The survival makes it equally difficult for them. Lack of hygiene, water, food, theft, corruption, riots and fear of epidemics put further stress on their nerves. The aftershocks are also dangerous. Being the remote location is one of the concerns along with the near freezing temperatures. The Chinese Government seems to be in a position to handle such a situation; however international communities should make efforts and expedite the necessary help to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
