The Election Commission of India has extended the schedule for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls across 12 states and union territories. The deadline for submitting electoral forms is now Dec. 11. The draft roll will be published on Dec. 16. The final roll will be released on Feb. 14, 2026.
The revision process covers Goa, Puducherry, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. The exercise began on Nov. 4. Assam will follow a different route through a special revision with Jan. 1, 2026 as the qualifying date.
The ECI issued the extension at a time when the revision process has triggered anxiety among voters and booth level officers. Reports from several states point to rising pressure on BLOs due to the pace and volume of work. In West Bengal and other regions, investigations are underway into alleged suicides of BLOs. Officials and teachers have linked these incidents to stress related to the ongoing exercise.
Teachers assigned as BLOs in Ahmedabad staged a sit-in demanding relief. They alleged pressure while completing enumeration duties. The hybrid structure of the process, which requires physical verification and digital uploads, has caused confusion among field officers with limited time and logistical support.
The ECI has said that no supportive documents will be needed during the period of collection of forms.
