Economy, Energy and HSE!

While HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) precautions are given prime importance for protection of all citizens from hazards and accidents, in advanced countries, there seems no reason why countries like India should be an exception.

All our top administrators, engineers and scientists must be aware of the global news as to how first Germany and then Japan decided to phase out their Nuclear Power Plants, obviously in view of their hazardous nature.

All other countries also, instead of continuing to clamour for expanding such an unsafe and harmful source of energy like Nuclear even after disastrous accidents seen at nuclear facilities in countries like Russia, America and recently even in Japan, should encourage further research and development in the area of ‘nonconventional and renewable energy’ sources like solar and wind, as viable HSE friendly alternatives.

In an article titled “Moonbeams” on the website ‘QUARTZ India’ (29 November, 2013), Todd Woody details: “Japan plans to supply total requirements of world’s energy from a giant solar power plant on the moon.” It reads Shimizu, a Japanese architectural and engineering firm, has a solution for the climate crisis: Simply build a band of solar panels 400-kilometer wide running all the way around the Moon’s 11000-kilometer equator and beam the carbon free energy back to the Earth in the form of microwaves, which are converted into electricity at ground stations. The company proposes to start building the Luna Ring in 2035. “Machines and equipment from the Earth will be assembled in space and landed on the lunar surface for installation,” says the proposal.

Developing countries, it is high time, should unmask the divide and rule policy and virtual piracy of hypocritical super powers, who instead of desiring for others what they consider good for themselves dump outdated technologies and facilities, in all fields inclusive of energy, at the cost of former’s scarce resources, under the guise of deceptive terminologies whether it is ‘civilian military agreements’, ‘humanitarian and military aid’, or ‘technology transfer’, etc.

Why the so-called super powers and guardians of global peace and democracy maintain silence at Israel, the lone owner of nuclear stockpile in ME, not signing NPT, while imposing sanctions on Iran, a signatory to NPT allowing inspections of IAEA and insisting that nuclear weapons are un-Islamic. Sometime back, Netanyahu is even seen showing a so-called ‘cartoon bomb’ in the UN, to demonstrate how fast Iran is making an atom bomb! The Israeli PM also predicted that Iran is within weeks of exploding a nuclear device; of course that was many years ago!

It is not clear as to the purpose of the drama of P+5 and one, talks with Iranians and easing of the so-called sanctions and a final agreement in lieu of draft agreement, with no end of extensions!
