This refers to your editorial (Radiance, 22-28 December). The tragic execution of Abdul Quader Mollah at the hands of ruling Awami League in Bangladesh has brought into limelight the worsening condition of human rights in the country. It seems here that Sheikh Hasina has turned frenzy and can sink to any dip in order to save its ‘political advantages’. That is why she rejected the requests of UN Secretary General, Turkish Premier, Government of Pakistan and several other world leaders who rang Hasina, asking her to abstain from hanging the opposition leader. Also, the point raised by the Ameer of JIH that “making efforts to maintain integrity of a country cannot be described as treason” carries weight.
