The 45th anniversary celebrations of the Jamia Nadviyya institutions run by the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen began at Edavanna, near Manjeri, Malappuram on January 21, making a clarion call to the Muslim community to meet the challenges posed by modern society with educational advancements. Only higher education rooted in good morals can give shape to a society of great values, observed the meeting, which condemned the attitude of neglecting social values while implementing educational reforms with an eye on commercial benefits. The meeting exhorted the government to give special consideration to educational institutions that gave special emphasis on social and moral values. Inaugurating the celebrations, Salih Sadlan, Islamic scholar and adviser to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Religion, said that peace, tolerance and belief in One God were the ideals on which Islam was founded. “Islam is a religion that abhors extremism and terrorism. Instead, it tries to synthesise temporal and spiritual aspects of life,” he said.
