The European Union on January 26 removed the People’s Mujahideen Organisation of Iran (PMOI) opposition group from its terror blacklist. Mujahideen Khalq Organisation (MKO) is rechristened as PMOI in the EU. The foreign ministers of the 27-nation EU rubber-stamped a decision to remove the PMOI, Iran’s main opposition group in exile, from a list of terror groups that includes Palestinian resistance group Hamas. The Luxembourg-based Court of First Instance, Europe’s second-highest tribunal, ruled in December for delisting the PMOI, which was declared a terrorist group in 2002. The PMOI reportedly have “tens of millions of dollars of assets, including $9 million in France” which have been frozen in Europe and to which it should now have access.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry criticised the European decision. Iranian judiciary spokesman Ali-Reza Jamshidi also criticised the European Union for removing the terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organisation (MKO) from its black list. Iran considers this move of the EU is the outcome of heavy pressure exerted by Zionists.
