Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the former right-leaning Dutch MP, who was born in 1969 in Somalia and defines herself as a dissident of Islam, built her popularity on attacks on Islam, including the script of the controversial two-part documentary Submission about Islam’s alleged oppression of women. She as a Somali immigrant won Dutch citizenship and then was elected to its parliament largely over her declared hostility to Islam. She resigned her seat in parliament and left for the US in 2006 after revelations that she had lied to Dutch authorities about her past to win asylum in 1992. The Dutch government stopped paying the 2 million euros ($2.9 million) a year bill for her. France is not only embracing the anti-Islam lady but also proposing a European fund to pay for her costly round-the-clock protection. French lawmakers have already tabled their motion to the European Parliament. The motion proposes a fund to cover round-the-clock protection for Hirsi Ali.
