Justice V Bhaskara Rao Commission, probing the police firing on May 18 last after the blast in Makkah Masjid Hyderabad, has issued the fresh directions to the former Hyderabad Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh to appear before it on March 5 and depose. The Commission asked the Government pleader to ensure that Balwinder Singh appears before it on the next day of hearing after he failed to appear before it on March 1. The appearance of Balwinder Singh, who headed the city police at the time of the police firing in which five persons were killed, was being waited keenly as his statement would be crucial for the probe by the Commission.
According to a report, the Government pleader Ramakrishna Rao informed the Commission that he could not contact Balwinder Singh as he was on leave and away to Punjab on some personal work. On this Justice Bhaskara Rao asked the Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s counsel, Shafeequr Rahman Mohajir whether he would like to cross-examine the other police officers Assistant Commissioner B Reddanna and Ashok Kumar Singh. But Mohajir was unhappy over the former Commissioner not keeping the schedule. The Commission adjourned the hearing till March 5 and asked the Government pleader to ensure the presence of Balwinder Singh as well as other police officers.
