Our country has made tremendous strides in the various fields, including science and technology so much so that now we are to join the comity of developed nations. But we will have to realise that our country is lying on the hot bed of corruption and crimes as well as moral crisis. Ultimate solution to these problems lies only in Islam. These were the views expressed by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Ameer Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari at an Eid Get-Together with leaders of different faiths, journalists and activists at its headquarters in the Capital on September 26.
While referring to the blessings of Ramadhan, the Jamaat chief said the holy month trains the believers to exercise perfect control over desires and emotions and to sympathise with those who stand in need. “Had people learnt these two lessons, the world would have been a different place to live in,” the Maulana asserted in his typical emphatic style.
Maulana Umari came down heavily on the education system as well as print and electronic media for giving way to diminishing moral values. “Diminishing moral values in the educational curriculum is deplorable whereas the real purpose of education is to make good citizens,” he lamented.
Elaborating the point, the Maulana said incidents of sexual anarchy are taking place in educational institutions, offices and other public places; even the heinous crime of homosexuality is being sought to be decriminalised. A cursory glance on the society reveals that it is the educated and the elite and not the illiterate who are most often found involved in illicit relationships, promiscuity and other crimes and corruption. “Is this the fruit of education our educational institutions are imparting?” the Maulana wondered.
A gist of Jamaat Ameer’s speech in chaste Urdu was presented in flowing English by Dr. M. Rafat, president of Delhi and Haryana Zone of the organisation.
Earlier, in his welcome speech, Jamaat’s Secretary General Nusrat Ali presented a brief but comprehensive introduction of the activities and services the Jamaat has been rendering since its inception for the good of society.
The Jamaat has tried to make the teachings of the Qur’ān and Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless and greet him) reach out to the common man in the country. For this purpose the organisation has produced translations of the Qur’ān, Seerah and other literature as well as newspapers, magazines, periodicals and websites in as many as 15 languages of the country.
Mr. Ali also dwelt upon how his organisation addresses the problems of corruption, characterlessness and fascism. He lamented that till yesterday we used to say that there was criminalisation of politics but now we see that there is politicisation of crimes.
He called upon the Indian Muslims to present a practical example of what they believe in; only then we can change the society for the better.
Jamaat’s Secretary for Education Mohammad Ashfaque Ahmed conducted the programme while Secretary for Dawah and organiser of the programme Iqbal Mulla extended vote of thanks to the audience.
