External and internal conspiracies are being hatched to suppress and demoralise Muslims, said Senior Supreme Court lawyer, Mahmood Paracha at a public meeting organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, in the national capital, on 29 March.

Addressing the public meeting, Advocate Paracha said after handling 70 terror cases one thing has come out clearly and there is substantial evidence to support the claim that there is indeed international conspiracies behind arrest of Muslim youth in terror cases. Various groups with varied interests are involved in these conspiracies. They are trying to demean and distort the overall image of our country with a view to make the international market perceive India as a disturbed area so that those interested to invest in India refrain from doing so only to hamper the growth and progress of the country.

Adv. Paracha also said it is also true that the rough elements in India and abroad are also trying to create an atmosphere where Muslims can be suppressed and pushed into the corner. On the one hand they shed crocodile tears that Muslims are not joining the mainstream but on the other they themselves are hatching conspiracies to intimidate and frighten them so that they might remain aloof and get depressed from elevating themselves at par with other communities or what is called the mainstream.

Adv. Paracha repeatedly said that after every arrest the statements are generally made in a stereotype manner and in most cases the same version is repeated and the motive remains to create an atmosphere to devoid the accused from all legal and moral support system which he may have to defend himself.

Adv. Paracha also said that most of the Muslim youth arrested are innocent and the entire Muslim community must by all means stand by them in all capacities. He strongly said that the Muslim community should protest and use all democratic forums so that the conspirators could not distort the image of the community and harm the way they want.

Mohammad Salim Engineer, National Secretary JIH, while addressing the gathering, said that when he led a delegation of Rajasthan Muslim Forum to meet the Director General of Police in Rajasthan he was surprised to hear from the DGP that he himself was unable to understand what was happening when he was asked how come the Delhi police arrest youth from Rajasthan without informing or taking the state police into confidence. He also said that the investigating agencies are deliberately targeting Muslim youth to intimidate and frighten the community.
