The endless vicious circle of violence in the Middle East region is the result of the lopsided policies pursued by the powerful countries. All the peace formulae and road-maps proposed by the U.S. and Europe since the formation of Israel in 1948 – arbitrary use of veto power apart – have clearly gone for creation of a ‘Greater-Israel’ at the cost of Palestinians’ rights. Militancy took the roots in the Palestinian struggle, only when the relatively peaceful Intefadas were suppressed with an iron hand by hawkish Israeli leaders. Far from achieving the desired objective of Israel to intimidate and flush out Gazans, the current Israeli aggression could only feed the minds of even moderate Palestinians to support the Hamas.
