The Forum for Muslim Studies and Analysis, Aligarh has opposed the Union Government’s move to prepare a uniform bill to administer all the central universities in the country. In a memorandum submitted recently by it, the forum has pointed out that the Aligarh Muslim University has been given some unique character under Section (5) of the AMU Act, 1980 which distinct the university from other ones. Moreover, the AMU Court, which is the supreme governing council of the university, has representations from AMU alumni, Waqf Board and members from different socio-educational organisations of Muslims and the bill would take off this status of AMU. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development recently instituted a committee under Prof. Pathan for the purpose.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, on 22 May, said he is in touch with a group of law experts in order to fight the case of the minority status of the university more efficiently in the apex court. He also stated that he discussed the matter with the Union Law Minister as well.
