The police have reportedly banned the sale of football bearing an inscription from the Holy Qur’an, in Surat in Gujarat. The ban was imposed following the apprehension that it might hurt the sentiments of millions of peace-loving Indians. A fresh consignment of footballs, recently put on sale at a shopping mall in Surat, had displayed the prints of flags of many football-playing countries including Saudi Arabia whose flag has an inscription from the Holy Qur’an. “The Saudi flag has an Aayat (verse) from the Holy Qur’an, kicking it could hurt the sentiments of Muslims,” Qadir Pirzada, former Mayor of Surat said.
