Former president of Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) and spokesperson of Babri Masjid Action Committee Jawed Habeeb breathed his last at his residence in New Delhi on October 11. He was 62. He was born in Tonk, Rajasthan, and received his primary and middle education from Tonk and Indore respectively. He then moved to AMU for higher education.

As the news of his death broke, condolence messages started to pour in. “I have been with him in AMU and other places. He was a sensitive and devoted personality,” said Professor Akhtarul Wasey. Z.K. Faizan, advocate, Supreme Court, expressed his feelings and said, “It is a great loss for the Aligarh fraternity. He did exceptional work in the fields of politics and social work,” said Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi. His funeral prayers were offered after Friday Prayers in Jama Masjid, Jamia Millia Islamia, in the presence of hundreds of his followers, friends and well-wishers. He was laid to rest in the graveyard of Batla House.
