The State of Maharashtra has issued orders to prosecute former assistant sub-inspector Sachin Waze and three other policemen Rajendra Tiwari, Driver Raja Ram and police constable Vasant Desai for allegedly conspiring and murdering Khwaja Yunus and causing disappearance of his dead body and other relevant evidence. Chief Public Prosecutor Satish Borulkar directed the Bombay High Court on Friday.
Yunus, a 27 year-old engineer and accused in the Ghatkopar blasts of 2002, allegedly died in police custody in January 2003. The police said he fled from custody and has been missing ever since. However, his mother Aasiya Begum alleged that he was killed by the police.
Investigation conducted by the state CID exposed the complaint lodged by the Police Inspector was false. Compensation sought by the victim’s mother is being considered afresh.
