The Mumbai Crime Branch has identified two groups, one from Govandi and another from Garibnagar in Bandra, who are suspected to be responsible for the arson outside Azad Maidan on August 11, even as they are preparing to drop charges against four arrested youngsters who have been found innocent. A total of 58 youth have been arrested so far, of which three have been discharged last week as they were found to be wrongly arrested. Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy confirmed that a few youth will be discharged soon. “They have been found innocent,” he said. Police, meanwhile, have completed scrutiny of the speeches delivered by organisers at the rally marked to protest killings of Muslims in Assam and Myanmar. “Some of the speeches are provocative and could invite penal action. But it is difficult to prove at the moment that the speeches provoked participants to resort to violence,” sources in the Crime Branch said.
