Even before the end of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, the news of intensification of a civil war in the Sudan hit the headlines. First it was oil which prompted a civil war which resulted in the separation of South Sudan. Now gold and oil both are responsible for this current civil war in Sudan.
This civil war started in Ramadan of 2023. It has devastated extensive areas of the country. UNO estimates confirm that up to now more than 50,000 citizens have been killed, countless injured and more than one and a half crore people have been displaced. It has destroyed the basic infrastructure of the country. It caused unprecedented hunger, deaths and destruction.
The war started more than two years and a half between the country’s military head General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the chief of Rapid Support Force (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ‘Hemedti’. It is a fight for power, behind which is greed for oil, gold and money. The net result is the widespread destruction of the basic infrastructure, economic losses and widespread hunger, disease and losses in human lives. The ultimate sufferers are the poor citizens. The five crore unconnected citizens are paying the price for the power struggle of a few persons and their foreignsupporters. Common people have become the fodder for their guns. The military chief still controls the capital Khartoum and some other areas. All regions, especially Darfur, Kordofan and Khartoum have faced the brunt of the war.
In the Sudan, Saudi Arabia has heavily invested in infrastructure development and the UAE has invested in gold mining and export of the yellow metal. Qatar and some other Arab countries have made moves to end the war and restore peace. But, by and large the arms manufacturers and foreign interests are playing their cards covertly and overtly, endangering the country of more than five crore innocent citizens, who are interested in peace and a minimum standard of life.
The UNO, Arab League and other well-wishers must intervene and stop this bloodshed, loss of life and destruction of a country which can build an exemplary social life. It would be relevant to mention that Sudan is a major exporter of gold among 54 countries of Africa and in year 2023 its gold export touched 40 tonnes. But only one-tenth of the money reached the government treasury and the rest was appropriated by the military warring groups and foreign interests. The traumatised people of Sudan are paying a very heavy price for their gold with resources, blood and lives. Lack of fear of God and greed for wealth knows no bounds. All over the world common people are responsible for all woes and troubles of the so-called civilized man. The same greed and lust for power is the root cause of all human problems. The world cannot have peace and harmony unless the human mind is cleansed and moral sense is awakened in human minds. A peaceful and war-free world can be createddiscouraging materialistic bentof mind. Otherwise mankind would continuously suffer permanently.
