This refers to editorial “Ensure Free, Fair polling” (Radiance, 13-19April). If we compare the election process and its fairness from the polls conducted a couple of decades ago, then without any point of doubt one can say that there has been significant improvement in the overall conduct of the election and indeed there have been substantial electoral reforms. But that does not mean there is no further scope of development if we go through the contents of the editorial. No matter how transparent and how swift the election process becomes, but a strict vigil is always required to ensure that even if someone with wrong intention does try to manipulate the EVM, he is unable to do so. Because, whatever methods are put in place to check unfair and illegal practices becomes ineffective in due course because the violators are more cunning than the lawmakers. Every year efforts should be made to ensure that model code of conduct is least violated and all barriers before the enactment of free and fair polls are thwarted timely.
