French national Clotilde Reiss has been released on bail from a Tehran jail after being held for six weeks on charges relating to post-election demonstrations. The Iranian authorities have allowed Reiss to stay at the French embassy in Tehran until a verdict is reached. Clotilde Reiss is facing criminal charges of aiding an anti-regime plot following Iran’s disputed presidential election. She’s been released on bail and cannot leave the country until a verdict in her case has been reached. The French language teacher was arrested six weeks ago after she attended demonstrations following the disputed re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. She is also charged with espionage for allegedly filing a report to the French embassy. Reiss was arrested on July 1 at the Tehran airport, shortly before her planned departure. French President Nicolas Sarkozy telephoned with Clotilde Reiss and confirmed that the 24-year-old was in good health. Sarkozy thanked the European Union and Syria for their support in mediating her release.
