G20 is an organisation of 19 most populous countries plus European Union. This group accounts for 80 per cent production of the world. It is expected to play a vital role in the fragmented world, and India which is the country with the largest population of the world has been trying to play a constructive role for progress in the world.

The 18th G20 Summit is being held in Indian capital with great fanfare. Figures indicate that Rs. 4000 crore has been spent on the beautification of New Delhi to impress the world leaders and delegations. The Summit is being held in “Bharat Mandapam” in Pragati Maidan which has cost around Rs. 2700 crore.

The world is in the grip of countless economic problems. In addition, there are several major problems created by Ukraine war which has complicated the problems of the whole world. Though the Summit is basically concerned with the economic issues yet it is shadowed by the darkness of Ukraine war.

The aftershocks of Covid-19 epidemic and the negative effects of Ukraine war will certainly influence the meet. Let us hope that our country will show light to the troubled world. Welfare of the entire humanity should be our motto.

Some of the pressing problems the developing and the developed countries are facing would be discussed in the 18th Summit under the chairmanship of India. It is an honour and opportunity for India. Some of the most complicated problems the world is facing are: Economic slowdown which has pushed crores of people below the poverty line. It has caused economic deprivation in scores of countries. People don’t have enough resources to look after their children’s health and education. A recent investigation by BBC has revealed how in some poorest countries it has led to sexual exploitation of young girls and how the poor mothers are forced to unwillingly push their daughters in flesh trade. It has opened the doors of child sex tourism, women trafficking, pornography, broken hearts, broken families, suicides, murders and other crimes. These negative consequences of economic deprivation are endangering the poor population of the world. The Summit is expected to address these urgent and pressing problems.

Other major problems are food insecurity, global warming, flight of capital to richer countries and the increasing gap between the rich and the poor. Besides, unemployment, inflation and need of sustainable development also would be discussed in the Summit. It is hoped some solutions would be found out.

We hope that the 18th G20 Summit would succeed in drawing the attention of the leaders of the leading nations to the need of greater cooperation for a more cooperative, more humane and more economically stable and progressive world. So that humanity achieves, in the scientifically developed world, a measure of morally and ethically advanced status for every man and woman. A prosperous and morally upright and sympathetic India is sure to guide the whole world to better standards of economic prosperity and moral excellence.
