Baba Abhi Ram Das had installed the idols in Babri Masjid at midnight of December 22-23, 1949 and Mahant Digvijay Nath, the then President of Hindu Maha Sabha, Uttar Pradesh, had played an active role in it, claims a book “Ayodhya; The dark night” by Krishna Jha and Dhirendra Jha.

Earlier, Mahant was charged with the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi but had been freed later. The compilers, on the basis of interviews of eye-witnesses, have proved how a mosque turned into a temple within a night. The book claims that the District Magistrate KK Nayar had reached Ayodhya at 4 AM but did not inform the higher officials in Lucknow until the Hindu Bhakt (devotees) had captured the whole land. The book contains interviews of two brothers of Abhi Ram who had followed him when he was going to install the idols in the mosque.
