A largescale public art installation commemorating Palestinian children killed in Gaza has opened in Dearborn, offering visitors a space for remembrance and reflection on the human cost of Israel’s mindless war on Gaza.
The installation, titled ‘Wall of Tears’, opened on June 11 at PEACE Park East and will remain on display through July 31. The 100-foot bilingual mural, in Arabic and English, features the names, ages, and stories of 18,457 Palestinian children killed in Gaza since October 2023.
Organisers say the names displayed represent only a portion of the children who have lost their lives during the war, emphasising the broader scale of suffering experienced by Palestinian families and communities. They note that total child fatalities are estimated to exceed 75,000, underscoring the magnitude of the immense loss of young lives. They describe the installation as an effort to humanise the victims by highlighting individual lives and memories rather than reducing them to statistics.
The art was created by Phil Buehler, whose work is known for addressing themes of human rights and historical memory through largescale public installations
Commenting on the exhibition, Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director, praised the initiative and its creators. “We salute Mr. Buehler on this powerful memorial,” Imad Hamad said. “We also commend the city of Dearborn and Mayor Hammoud for hosting this memorial.”
