An adverse possession on a wakf land is being vacated in Hyderabad. On the complaint lodged by Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on June 27 started demolishing an under-construction complex being erected on the Jamshed Khan Masjid wakf land in the Himayat Nagar area of the city.
The 2658 square yard wakf property is said to be worth crores of rupees, and the occupants had been building a grand complex to be used as Thana Garden Function Hall.
Chief executive officer of the Wakf Board Shaikh Madar told the daily that acting on the Board’s complaint GHMC had issued show cause notice to Meer Ahmed Ali and Waqaruddin Ali, who had been building illegal construction on the wakf property by hoodwinking the corporation.
Earlier, in 1999, Andhra Pradesh High Court, in a title suit related to this plot of land, had pronounced a judgement in favour of the Wakf Board. Despite this GHMC permitted the illegal occupants to construct a complex. It was in April this year that the Wakf Board filed a complaint against the illegal occupants before GHMC, which started demolishing the complex when the occupants failed to give sufficient response to the show cause notice.
